In 2023, we completed two turnkey retrofit implementations on the DFDS ferries Luna Seaways and Aura Seaways. Our collaboration with DFDS aimed to reduce pump energy usage significantly, and our complete Frese FUELSAVE® System solutions have delivered exactly that. We delivered the hardware, including valves, frequency converters, sensors and automation system – and we also managed the mechanical and electrical installations.
The Frese FUELSAVE® Systems have been performing flawlessly since installation delivering the expected pump energy savings. This success story is a testament to our commitment to providing sustainable energy-saving solutions to the maritime industry.
In addition to the pump energy savings a notable achievement was a significant reduction in oil-fired boiler fuel consumption. DFDS has reported saving a quarter tonne of fuel per port visit - with two visits typically occurring daily. This translates to substantial savings and a reduced environmental impact. “We use an OMEGA Compact 3-way rotary control valve to regulate condensate return temperatures so that the system does not consume unnecessary energy and thereby reduce the oil-fired boiler consumption”, says Rasmus Frimann Nielsen, Product Manager at Frese.
The OMEGA Compact 3-way rotary control valve, an integral part of our Frese FUELSAVE® System, provides simple, accurate and reliable flow regulation for both diverting and mixing applications in the marine industry. “For us it is extremely rewarding that our OMEGA Compact valves have received so much attention in the marine industry and can be used to obtain actual measurable energy savings”, says Rasmus Frimann Nielsen.
